This week’s health product review and here we have one of my favorite herbal teas, which is the Three Tulsi blend from Pukka Herbs.
Tulsi(Ocimum sanctum) also known as ‘Holy Basil’ is a sacred Ayurvedic herb with potent adaptogenic and stress support properties.
Adaptogen’s are a class of herbs, which increase the bodies resistance to stress, whilst having a balancing or normalizing effect on the body and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis.
There are many different types of tulsi and Pukka use three varieties of Tulsi in their tea including Rama or green tulsi, Krishna or purple tulsi and wild lemon tulsi.
There is mounting evidence that tulsi can address physical, chemical, metabolic and psychological stress through a unique combination of pharmacological actions.
Tulsi has been found to protect organs and tissues against chemical stress from industrial pollutants and heavy metals, and physical stress from prolonged physical exertion, ischemia, physical restraint and exposure to cold and excessive noise.
Tulsi has also been shown to counter metabolic stress through normalization of blood glucose, blood pressure and lipid levels, and psychological stress through positive effects on memory and cognitive function and through its anxiolytic and anti-depressant properties.
The Natural Health Blogger’s Review
Tulsi(Holy Basil) has been a staple and favorite herb of mine for many years now.
Many years back when I was suffering intensely from chronic stress and “adrenal burnout”, I began to research various herbs, which could be of therapeutic benefit for battling stress disorders and chronic fatigue.
Upon my research I stumbled upon many adaptogenic herbs, Tulsi(Holy Basil) being one of them.
I have found Tulsi to have a very potent effect for supporting the adrenal glands and helping to control levels of stress hormone cortisol.
As with many other adaptogen herbs, Tulsi has a biphasic effect, being both mildly energizing and calming to the nervous system at the same time.
The flavour of Tulsi is very unique and delicious, resembling a mildly “spicy” blend of mint, licorice and hints of cloves.
I have tried many different brands of Tulsi tea over the years, but none of them i find compare to the effect of Pukka Herb’s Three Tulsi tea blend.
I definitely recommend anyone suffering from “adrenal burnout”, chronic stress or chronic fatigue syndrome to give Tulsi tea a try.
£2.49 for 20 tea bags.
